The Japan Iron and Steel
Federation Standard ( JFS Standard )
1. Preface
The first editions of JFS Standards were established in 1996 by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation. Since then, JFS Standards have been widely applied in the field of steels for manufacturing automobiles.
At the time of establishment, JFS Standards consisted of seven product standards and two test standards. In 2014 revision, one product standard and two test standards were withdrawn. In 2023 amendment, one product standard was withdrawn. Currently JFS Standards consisted of five standards for steel product.
In the product standards, the requirements on steel sheets for automobile use, such as the mechanical properties, the dimensional tolerances, and the information to be provided by purchasers, are specified. They also specify the requirements on the zinc coated steel sheets for automobile use, such as the coating mass and the chemical treatments.
The English versions of JFS Standards are available. We are pleased to receive your order.
2. Recent revision
To update the information and the requirements, JFS Standards were revised as of September 2025, that are published as new 2025 editions. Major revisions are as follows;
1) For all standards
Technical points such as mechanical properties, shape, mechanical test, inspection and information to be provided by purchasers are revised and some terms and definitions were added. 2) JFS A 2001
In addition to 1), manufacturing method was added.
