Regarding the Determination to Revoke the Antidumping Measures against OCTG in the United States

June 1, 2007

On May 31, the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) determined to revoke antidumping measures against OCTG (oil country tubular goods) that are imported into the United States from Japan as a result of a sunset review.

This determination came from the results of a proper analysis of US supply and demand trends for OCTG that was conducted by the ITC. It demonstrates that the ITC recognizes Japan’s consistent claim that exports of OCTG from Japan involve specialized high value-added materials, and that these exports do not harm, nor are they likely to harm, US industries.

While welcoming this decision?which took into consideration the viewpoint of the US petroleum industry, a consumer of OCTG?we at the Japan Iron and Steel Federation would like to express our sincere respect to the members of the ITC for their just decision. We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to all who supported us, including the major US oil companies that provided their testimony at the ITC hearing.

In the wake of the previous determination on corrosion-resistant steel sheet, Japan’s iron and steel industry strongly hopes that the determination to revoke these measures will serve as a springboard for renewed free trade in iron and steel, and that the same posture will be maintained when handling other issues in the future, including the sunset review of large-diameter line pipe.

Hajime Bada
Chairman
The Japan Iron and Steel Federation
