Chairman’s statement on the decision to revoke anti-dumping duties on corrosion-resistant steel products in the United States

December 15,2006

On December 14, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) decided to revoke anti-dumping duties on corrosion-resistant steel products that is imported from Japan into the United States after conducting a sunset review.

With this decision, the ITC has analyzed the situation on steel demand and supply in US appropriately, and has recognized the assertion of Japanese steel industry that exports of corrosion-resistant steel products from Japan do not harm US industry. We welcome this decision, which considered the views of steel users in the United States. We also express our heartfelt respect to the ITC’s commissioners, which handed down this just decision. Moreover, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who extended their support to us, including the US automobile industry, which testified on our behalf at the ITC hearing.

Japanese steel industry strongly desires to see the stance that is exemplified by this decision maintained into the future, and the principle of free trade secured in the US steel market.
