Masayuki HIROSE
Chairman
The Japan Iron and Steel Federation

The Government of Japan has announced a preliminary determination on anti-dumping duties on Hot-dip Galvanized Steel Strip and Steel Sheet originating in the Republic of Korea (hereinafter "Korea") and the People's Republic of China (hereinafter "China"). This determination was made based on the government's finding that the concerned goods were imported at unfairly low prices and that material injury was caused to the domestic industry by such imports.

Dumping margin rates: Korea: 32.49%~42.69%; China: 63.95%~68.67%

Similarly to the preliminary determination announced on June 19 regarding Nickel-Contained Stainless Cold-Rolled Steel Strip and Cold-Rolled Steel Sheet from China and the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu, we understand that the information released today is part of the process of this investigation being conducted fairly and independently by the Government of Japan based on WTO rules. The Japanese steel industry will urge the Government of Japan to promptly implement provisional measures and to proceed swiftly toward a final decision in order to correct unfair imports as soon as possible.

Furthermore, the Japanese steel industry will continue to strengthen its monitoring efforts on unfair import practices, not limited to the products subject to the investigation that has just been initiated and will consult with the Government of Japan each time when it becomes necessary regarding further trade remedy measures.
