Regarding the Determination for Anti-dumping Investigation for Certain Flat-Rolled Products of Iron, Non-Alloy or Other Alloy Steel in South Africa.

The Japan Iron and Steel Federation
Chairman
Tadashi IMAI

On March 18, as a result of an anti-dumping investigation, the National Treasury of South Africa announced in the government gazette to implement anti-dumping measures for certain flat-rolled products of iron, non-alloy or other alloy steel from Japan following a recommendation from the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition.

During the anti-dumping investigation, the Japanese steel industry claimed that exports of certain flat-rolled products of iron, non-alloy or other alloy steel from Japan have caused no injury to the domestic steel industry in South Africa.

We believe that it is unjust and extremely regrettable that the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition and the National Treasury of South Africa has rejected our statements and concluded that the domestic industry in South Africa has been injured by imports of certain flat-rolled products of iron, non-alloy or other alloy steel from Japan.

The Japanese steel industry will carefully study this decision and determine a proper course of action.
