On July 23rd (Japan time), the governments of Japan and the United States announced an agreement on Japan-U.S. tariff negotiations.
The majority of exports from Japan to the United States are made up of products that use a lot of steel, such as automobiles and automobile parts, industrial machinery, and electrical machinery.
In this context, the recent Japan-U.S. agreement has settled the reciprocal tariff rate at 15%, and the additional tariffs on automobiles and automobile parts have been reduced from 25% to 15%. This is extremely significant not only for the steel industry but for Japan's industrial sector more broadly. We would like to express our deep respect to the Japanese government for its efforts to date.
On the other hand, this agreement states that additional tariffs on steel products are still under negotiation. We would like to express our gratitude for the negotiating efforts of the Japanese government to date, and hope that the Japanese government will continue to negotiate tenaciously with the U.S. government.
