Regarding the Determination to Continue the Anti-dumping Measures against Clad Steel Plate in the United States
Jan 16,2013
Hiroshi Tomono
Chairman
The Japan Iron and Steel Federation
On January 15, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) voted to continue existing trade restraints on Clad Steel Plate imported into the U.S. from Japan following the third sunset review.
The Japanese steel industry has claimed during the sunset review proceedings that revocation of the Clad Steel Plate order on Japan is not likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury to the U.S. steel industry.
Nonetheless, based on the determination in this sunset review, ITC appears to have concluded that protection of the U.S. steel industry should be given the highest priority, continuing antidumping measures which have been imposed for more than 15 years. This is an extremely disappointing decision.
The Japanese steel industry will carefully study this decision and determine a proper course of action.
