Regarding the final determination for Australia's Hot-rolled Steel Coil/Sheet Anti-dumping Investigation

The government of Australia decided on December 20 to implement anti-dumping measures for hot-rolled steel coil/sheet imported from Japan.

During the anti-dumping investigation by the government, the Japanese steel industry repeatedly stated that exports of hot-rolled steel coil/sheet from Japan have caused no injury to the domestic industry in Australia.

We believe that it is inappropriate and regrettable that the government has rejected our statements, concluded that the domestic industry in Australia has been injured by imports of hot-rolled steel coil/sheet from Japan, and decided to enact the anti-dumping measures.

According to this decision, the dumping margin on pickled and oiled steel imported from Japan is zero. Although the impact mainly on the Australian automobile industry has been reduced, there are concerns about negative impacts for Australian industries that import products other than pickled and oiled steel coil/sheet.

The Japanese steel industry will carefully study this decision and, after holding discussions with Japanese government officials, determine a proper course of action.
