Regarding the Determination to Continue the Anti-dumping Measures against TIN- AND CHROMIUM-COATED STEEL SHEET in the United States

On May 15, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) voted to continue existing trade restraints on tin mill products imported to U.S. from Japan following the second sunset review of the antidumping measures.

The Japanese steel industry has claimed during the sunset review proceedings that exports of tin mill products from Japan are mainly for emerging countries of expected steady growth of can demand along with population increase, and revocation of tin mill products order on Japan is not likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury to the U.S. steel industry.

Nonetheless, based on the determination in this sunset review, the ITC appears to have concluded that protection of the U.S. steel industry should be given the highest priority, continuing antidumping measures which were imposed more than ten years. This is unfair and extremely disappointing decision.

The Japanese steel industry will examine the ITC’s written determination when it is made available and intend to take appropriate action upon review.
